Analyzing Advertisements

Analyzing Advertisements

I came across a Nike ad from a 2009 campaign for the Nike+ Run Club. I the first ad, the text reads "One more thing for men to rule" the other ad saying "Ladies first. Men second". These ads used the stereotypes and social normality of society to playfully inspire competition between the two sexes in order to generate more sign-ups on their website. Specifically, the first ad uses the idea of men's desire to control and rule things as inspiration to get men more motivated to compete against women in this Nike Running campaign. The other ad uses the idea of chivalry and how women are supposed to be first and men second in society to get the women motivated.

The Mask You Live In Blog

Growing up I was very much a kid who enjoyed the stereotypical boy activities like playing in the dirt, baseball, and racing mini-motorcycles with my brother and cousins.

From what I can recall I never really had an interest in toys that were "for girls". I'd venture to guesss that this was because I didn't grow up around anyone that played with these types of toys. I've always had neighbors that were either elderly or families that had boy(s) that were mine or my brothers age, and none of my family members that are close to my age are girls.

This Is Your Brain On Sports is a humorous and informative book on sports reseach. Not only does this book talk about how the human brain reacts to sports but it also teaches many lessons for athletes and sports fans alike. The book dives into many aspects of sports including pyschology and economics ad even more subjects.

This book didn't exactly change my thinking but actually got me thinking. Neuroscience and cognitive thiking along with psychology makes this book very interesting to me. Although at times I did start to feel it was getting a bit boring, the pieces of humor were evident made me continue reading.
